Michael VanMeter

Michael T. VanMeter, age 73, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away on December 8, 2024 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on February 3, 1951 to the late Angus VanMeter and Delores Green in Columbus, Ohio.

Michael spent over 40 years working as a commercial electrician, project manager, and estimator. He had both his electrical and fire alarm license as well as taught an electrical apprenticeship. He took pride in each and every one of his projects and was especially proud of a “bucket list” large central Ohio hospital he worked on until completion. Over all of those years of hard work, he also had a home remodeling business and his home inspector license. He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed doing home projects, both inside and out. One of his prized accomplishments was a 50s/60s diner, complete with a working jukebox and memorabilia. 

He loved to share his electrical and craftsmanship knowledge with his friends and family and there was never a time that he didn’t have a project in progress in the workshop. He also enjoyed riding his Harley, spending time with family and friends as well as traveling, especially if it was near the water.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Angus VanMeter and Delores Green, and his step-mother, Jan VanMeter.

Michael is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna Marilyn VanMeter, his son, James Curtis VanMeter, step-son, D.J. Haines (Julie), brother, David VanMeter (Suzanne), sisters, Sheree McDonald, and Deborah Bowman (Jeff), grandchildren, Haley, Dylan and Justin Haines, several nieces and nephews as well as many loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Tidd Funeral Home, 9720 OH-161 Plain City, Ohio, 43064, beginning at 10:00am and ending at 12:00pm for the funeral service to begin. Family and friends are invited to stay after the service for a luncheon from 1:00-3:00pm
