Joyce Klatte

Joyce Elaine Klatte was a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife during her incredible 78 ½ years of life.  It is with great sadness that we announce that she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in the early afternoon of Thursday, February 3, 2022 at The Kobacker House.

Born in Kenton, Ohio on April 15, 1943, Joyce was raised in Ada, Ohio by her loving parents, George & Lucille Umphress.  Their unfortunate passing when Joyce was a teenager left her in the devoted care of her four older brothers, Charles, Maurice, Lowell and Howard.

For high school, Joyce attended two years in Ada and then graduated from Coshocton High School in 1961.  She continued her studies at the Columbus Business College where she graduated with an associate degree as a legal secretary.

Joyce met the love of her life, Dick Klatte, on a blind date in 1962.  They were married in 1964 at Westgate United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio.  They spent a brief time in Columbus before settling in Hillard, Ohio and starting a family.

Joyce was a bright spark in this world with a spunky sense of humor.  She touched the lives of so many and made it a point to make all those she encountered feel so important and special.  Anyone that truly knew her, knew she had such a big heart.  Joyce was a devout member of New Wine Covenant Church in Columbus where she served in many ministries.  She loved to read the Bible & share her knowledge and understanding of God’s word to others.  Her love for the Lord was fiercely deep and we take comfort in knowing that our “Joycie” is now at peace surrounded by His light.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Dick, her sons, Deron (Nichole) and Tim (Rebekah), and her granddaughters, Olivia and Hannah, her brother, Howard (Helen), as well as her extended family and an abundance of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles, Maurice and Lowell, and oldest son, Rick.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in her honor at the Tidd Funeral Home in Plain City, Ohio on Saturday, February 26^th at 11am.  Please join the family for a luncheon following the service.
