Stratton, James Edward. Passed away following a brief illness on September 13, 2020. Born on 12/26/1930 in Columbiana, Ohio. Jim was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Marjorie Stratton, and
sister Jean Stratton. Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife of
68 years, Eleanor (Koons) Stratton, daughters Lisa Kay Yoder, Leslie Ann Stratton, son-in-law Maynard Yoder, grandsons David Yoder (Taylor) and First Lieutenant Benjamin Yoder USMC, sister Eleanor
and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim attained a bachelor’s degree in Architecture (1958) and a master’s degree in City Design (1961) from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
After graduation Jim worked for the city planning firm of Carroll V. Hill and Associates where he worked on the redevelopment of the urban centers of many midwestern towns. Later, Jim started his own firm,
Urban Design Consultant. Urban Design Consultant was instrumental in the redesign and redevelopment of numerous regional urban centers. Daughters Lisa and Leslie fondly recall their father building
small scale models of his designs of city centers and demonstrating to them how his designs would improve urban ergonomics. Later, Jim worked for Grace Brethren Church of Worthington where he
worked on the development of the new worship center. In the 1980’s Jim joined the Department of Construction Management at Columbus State University (CSU). He served as Department Chairman of
Construction Technology until his retirement in 2000. Jim and Eleanor were devoted members of Dublin Baptist Church and enjoyed many warm friendships with members of its
congregation. Jim’s family would like to thank the members of Dublin Baptist Church for the selfless help they provided Jim in his time of need. A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Jim at Dublin Baptist
Church, 7195 Coffman Rd., Dublin, OH, 43017, Sunday, September 20th, 2020. Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm the service at 3:00 pm.
Donations can be made in Jim’s honor to Dublin Baptist Church.
