J. Oliver Carpenter, 61, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly
on Saturday, April 25, 2020. A life-long resident of Central Ohio,
he was the first child of Johnny and Virginia Carpenter. He
graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School. He attended The
Ohio State University and the College of The Sequoias and
played football at both schools. J. was employed at BBI as a
canine handler to Susie and Copper. He took such pleasure in
providing the service and as a result developed many friendships
over the years. He was an active member of the American
Quarterhorse Association and The U.S. Equestrian Federation.
He was recently recognized for 25 years as a member of the
Central Ohio Baseball Umpires Association. J loved animals,
especially horses, dogs and cats, John Wayne movies, and was
enjoying life “in the country”.
J. is survived by his wife, Diane (Holtzapfel), and sons, Tim and
Steven. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia; brothers Willie
(Lou Ann) and Johnny (Vicki); sister, Civilla; along with many
nieces, nephews and hosts of friends left to remember good times
shared. Preceding him in death are his father and in-laws Joe and
Gerry Holtzapfel.
