Eleanor J. Stratton

Stratton, Eleanor Koons, age 91. Eleanor passed away on December 13, 2021 following a brief illness. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, James, parents Emmert and Carrie Koons, and sister Marjorie Leehmuis. Eleanor is survived by daughters Lisa Kay Yoder (Maynard) and Leslie Ann Stratton (Dr. John Fleishman) and grandsons David Yoder (Taylor), Captain Benjamin Yoder, USMC, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Eleanor attained a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She taught Home Economics at Worthington Christian School. She was a devoted wife to Jim. Her greatest joy was raising her two daughters, Lisa and Leslie. Eleanor was an accomplished violinist and violist, and for many years taught violin and viola to both children and adults. She greatly enjoyed performing with the Columbus Women in Music group, the Cardinal Health Orchestra (founded by her adult student and executive at Cardinal Health, Ron Reich) and regularly performed for church services, cantatas, and at many other musical productions. Hers was a life filled with music. Gifted with perfect pitch, Eleanor loved to correct daughters Lisa and Leslie on their note choice and pitch while the girls practiced their instruments and she performed household chores. Throughout the girls’ formative years, she acted as their musical and academic tutor and critic, as well as their chauffeur and moral supporter. Eleanor possessed a wonderful sense of humor and was a master of subtle understatement. She loved to cook and excelled not only in that endeavor but also in homemaking and horticulture. She loved animals, especially cats. She was fun to be with and brought joy to all whom she met. Her sense of charity and willingness to help others was unending. 

She and husband Jim were devoted members of the Dublin Baptist Church and both enjoyed the many warm friendships with members of its congregation. Eleanor’s family would like to thank all of her wonderful friends for their loving support, particularly during the past two years. A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Eleanor at Dublin Baptist Church, 7195 Coffman Road, Dublin, Ohio 43017 on MONDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2021. Visitation will begin at 12:00p.m. with Funeral Service to follow at 1:00pm. Pastor J.D. Davis will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery, Plain City, Ohio. Donations in Eleanor’s memory can be made to Dublin Baptist Church.
